How do I winterize my pump?
Winterizing your pressure washer pump prevents cracked seals and internal damage from freezing water, and it only takes a few minutes. Start by disconnecting the machine from any water source and running the engine or motor briefly to clear residual water from the pump and hoses. Next, add pump saver or RV antifreeze — never automotive antifreeze — by running a small amount through the pump using the garden hose inlet until it flows out the spray gun, which coats internal components and prevents ice damage. Disconnect and drain the high-pressure hose completely, coiling it for storage. For gas models, stabilize the fuel or drain the tank to avoid gumming up the carburetor. Store the unit somewhere temperate and dry rather than an unheated garage if possible. Skipping this step is one of the most common reasons pressure washers fail to start in spring.
