Frequently Asked Questions - Pressure Wash Tips FAQs

Is 3000 PSI too much to wash a car?

Is 3000 PSI too much to wash a car?

Yes — 3,000 PSI sits well above the widely recommended safe range for vehicles, which is roughly 1,200–1,900 PSI. At 3,000 PSI, even a brief, close pass with the wrong nozzle can strip wax, damage clear coat, force water past window and door seals, or cause fine paint damage that doesn’t become visible until months later. If a 3,000 PSI machine is genuinely all you have, it can still be used on a car safely, but only with the widest available nozzle, typically 40°, held at least 12–18 inches from the surface and kept moving continuously rather than lingering on one spot. Never use a narrow 0° or 15° tip on a vehicle at this pressure. For regular car washing, a dedicated 1,200–1,900 PSI machine remains the safer, purpose-built choice.
